PAGELAND – Joseph Ray “Joey” Carpenter, 27, died July 8, 2007 at CMC-Charlotte. A funeral service was held July 11 at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Lakeland Memorial Park.
Carpenter, born in Union County, was a son of Bryan and Cathy Donahue Carpenter of Monroe, N.C. Surviving along with parents are wife Christin Honeycutt Carpenter, of the home; daughter Kristen Carpenter, of the home; brothers Josh and Jeremy Carpenter, both of Monroe; grandmothe, Elsie Donahue, of Monroe; and grandparents Kenneth and Frances Carpenter, of Monroe.

She was preceded in death by husband of 64 years, Arthur W. King, and brothers Ronald C. “Ronnie” and Edwin W. “Pete” Marze Jr.

Timmons, born in Cheraw, was a son of the late Samuel Thomas “Mr. T” and Annie Jones Timmons. He was a retired truck driver, farmer and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a faithful member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Tiny Howard Timmons; second wife, Edna Sellers Lee Timmons; sisters Ruth Stroud, Rosa Lee McLaurin, Margarette McLaurin and Betty Canipe.
Surviving are sons Samuel (Tammy) Timmons III, of Cheraw, and Jerry (Frankie) Timmons, of McFarlan, N.C.; four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.

She recently returned to Massachusetts to be with her entire family as she faced illness with courage and bravery. Her life centered around her family and her responsibilities as a devoted, passionate educator. An ardent gardener, she was well known for her “green thumb” and beautiful flower boxes.

HODGES, S.C. — Frances Rebecca “Reba” McClain Rushton Williamson, 93, died June 19, 2007. Funeral serviced were held June 21 at Hodges Church of God with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Willie C. and Minnie Lee Gilmer McClain.
She was preceded in death by husbands George Bell Rushton and L.S. Williamson and also two sons, Billy Rushton and Marvin Rushton. She was the last survivor of her siblings, which included Blease, Dewey, Marion, Gilbert, Nellie and Eugenia.
She was retired from Chicola Mills in Honea Path and was a member of Hodges Church of God, where she was a member of the Silver Bells Sunday School Class and a former member of the choir.
Surviving are daughters Flo Bates, Joyce Elliott and Belle Townsend; a stepson, Bob Williamson; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, including Charity McBride, of Pageland; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.

PAGELAND – James Edgeworth, 67, died June 8, 2007 at CMC-Union, in Monroe, N.C. A funeral service was held June 13 at Rose Hill Baptist Church, in Lancaster County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Edgeworth, born in Chesterfield County, was a son of the late Aaron Lon and Alithea Blakeney Edgeworth. He was a faithful member of the NAACP, one, of the first African-Americans to fight for equal rights in Chesterfield County. He was employed by Teledyne Allvac in Monroe, N.C., where he retired. He was a faithful member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where he was Superintendent, of the Sunday School Department, president, of Men’s Choir, leader, of the Senior Choir, member of the Pastor’s Aid and leader, of the Note Choir.
He was preceded in death by sons Branus Threatt Sr. and Frank Moore; brother Frank Edgeworth; and grandson Seneca Threatt.
Surviving are wife Mary A. Edgeworth; sons Broadus Threatt Jr., of Monroe, N.C. and Aaron Edgeworth,, of the home; daughters Drusilla (Jimmy) Moore and Anita (Dennis) Blakeney, of Pageland; brother T.J. Kollock, born in Chesterfield, was a daughter of the late James Chambers and Henrietta C. Smith. She was a graduate of Gary High School in Chesterfield and was an active member of Grandview Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and elder, president of Presbyterian Women and numerous other committees. She was a life member of the NAACP where she served on the executive board and at the local level serving as vice-president and executive committee member. She was a member of the Forest Dale Chapter O.E.S. 379 where she served as Worthy Matron for many years. She was active in the Chesterfield County Democratic Party. She was elected to the State Democratic Party Executive Committee where she served two terms. She was appointed to the Chesterfield County Election Commission by the Legislative Delegation and in 2004 was selected as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in Boston.
She was preceded in death by brothers Jacob and Alexander Chambers, Harry and Frank Smith.

CHESTERFIELD – Alma J. Moore, 53, died May 18, 2007.
A funeral service was held May 26 at Salem Baptist Church with burial in Chesterfield Community cemetery.
Moore was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Alma Moore. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High and received an associate degree from New York Technical College.
She was a resident of Brooklyn, N.Y., and later Gouldsboro, Pa. She worked at Guardian Life Insurance and then joined New York City Police Department where she was promoted to detective and later retired from the 90th precinct. She was a dedicated member of the Brown Memorial Baptist Church, in Brooklyn, and a member of the New York City Police Department Guardian Association.
Surviving are daughter Ebony Welch of Gouldsboro, Pa.; sisters Emma Moore, of Brooklyn, and Lillie Moore of Scranton, Pa.; brothers, James Moore, of Bronx N.Y., Donnie and Bennie Moore, of Chesterfield, and John Moore, of Brooklyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and many other relatives and friends.

Purvis, born in Chesterfield County, was a daughter of Annie Mae Poston Davis and the late James Lee Davis.
She was a retired cafeteria worker at Edwards Elementary.
She was preceded in death by husband Willard Thomas “Bill” Purvis, daughter Elizabeth Ann Purvis and brothers Jackie, Eddie and Pete Davis. Surviving are son Michael Thomas Purvis, of Chesterfield; daughter Sue Anne Purvis, of Chesterfield; sister Shirley Johnson, of Cheraw; and several nieces and nephews.

Wilks, born in Ruby, was a daughter of the late Dennis Grady and Mary Rebecca Allen Ratliff. She was a homemaker and a member of White Oak Presbyterian Church and also attended Clanton Plains Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by sister Blanche Allen.

Rollings, born in Jefferson, was a son of the late John and Lena Miles Rollings. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Eason, born in Chesterfield County, was a son of the late Bo and Corrina Johnson Eason.
He was a retired cotton gin operator and a member of Southside Ministries, in Pageland.
He was preceded in death by son Donald Eason, daughter Judy Wallace, grandchild Casey Ann Wright, brothers Roland, Olin, Frank, Jessie and Bo Eason and sister Rosa Lee Eason.

Adams worked as a part-time dispatcher for Pageland Police Department and was a full-time homemaker.
