John Dudley Horne
RUBY - John Dudley Horne, 80, died June 13, 2008 at his home. A funeral service was held June 15, 2008 at Elizabeth Baptist Church with burial in the Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery
Horne, born in Ruby, was a son of the late David Lester and Allie Cornelia Gulledge Horne. He was a graduate of Ruby High School and was a retired employee with Delta Mills with 32 years of service. Horne was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the WOW Lodge 516, American Legion Post 74, and Elizabeth Baptist Church. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Joyce Horne and David Horne and by his sister Henrietta Horne. Surviving are: wife of 57 years, Elendor Gray Rivers Horne of the home; sons, Jimmy (Linda) Horne and Donnie Horne both of Ruby; daughters, Janet (Gene) Bittle and Terri (Frankie) Hancock both of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Ashley Bittle and Jonathan Hancock of Chesterfield. Memorials can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Jerico (Bo) Jowers
JEFFERSON – Jerico (Bo) Jowers, 50, died June 10, 2008. A funeral service was held June 15, 2008 at Mt. Elon United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Jowers, better known as “Bo” to some people as “Liver” to others was a McBee High School graduate. He was one who loved to work and a hard worker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dezzie Jowers and father Johnny Brown.
Surviving are: Wife, Lagatha Jowers; sons, Jerimia Jowers, Michael Miller, and Jeffery Miller all of Jefferson; daughters, Stephanie Jowers of Patrick and Imani (Pumkin) of Charlotte; brothers Dyvonne (Eva) Jowers of Lancaster, Michael Brown of Lancaster; sisters, Jenny (Craven) Bristow of Jefferson and Diane (Jerry) Graham of Hartsville; grandchildren Kebria Miller, Janaz Miller and Zakayla Ingram; special cousin Mary Jowers (Emanuel) Bristow and Collin Brown; sister-in-laws, Mable (Otis) Clyburn, Janice (Leonard) Blakeney, Delphine (Joseph) Truesdale, Doeshelle (William) Ellis and Janet Marsh; brother-in-laws, Harry (Vivian) Miller and Maurice (Brenda) Miller; aunts, Naomi Jowers, Edell Jowers and Mattie Jowers all of Jefferson; uncle, K.D. Chambers of Peachland, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

Billy Knight
MONROE, N.C. - Billy Knight, 67, died June 16, 2008. A funeral service was held June 19, 2008 at Sutton Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Knight is the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Edith Watts Knight. He was a member of the Masons.
Surviving are: wife, Dianne Knight of Monroe, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Sharon Knight of Matthews, N.C.; daughter, Rhonda Ard of Matthews, N.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Wilson and Billie Jean, Charles W. and Joanne Knight all of Pageland, S.C.; sisters, Sylvia Rogers of Fort Mill, S.C. and Nancy Carelock of Monroe, N.C.; mother-in-law, Vera Gay of Pageland, S.C.; special sisters-in-law, Carolyn Price and Marilyn Gay both of Pageland, S.C.; grandchildren, Alana Dawkins, TJ Knight, Alyssa Knight, Holly Ard and Logan Ard; great-grandchild, Vanessa Dawkins. Azilee Melton Taylor
JEFFERSON — Azilee Melton Taylor, 85, died June 18, 2008 at her home. A funeral service was held June 21, 2008 at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Taylor, born in Jefferson, was a daughter of the late Richard and Pinky Robertson Melton. She was a retired Caro-Knit employee and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Taylor was married to the late Edward Taylor and was also preceded in death by her son, Ray Edward Taylor. Surviving are: daughters, Joanne T. (George) Horton of Jefferson, and Juanita M. (Jimmy) Price of Rock Hill, S.C.; brother, Johnny Reece (Peggy) Melton of Jefferson; sisters, Rosie (Conley) Eubanks, and Lucille (Hubert) Rollins both of Jefferson; Ruth Boone of Lancaster, S.C., and Gertrude Belk of Kannapolis, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Janie Melton of Lancaster, S.C. and Ruth Melton of Jefferson; Also 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Betty Lou Wilson
JEFFERSON – Betty Lou Wilson, 51, died June 12, 2008 at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence. A funeral service was held June 17, 2008 at Angelus Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in the church cemetery. Ms. Wilson, born in Jefferson, a daughter of the late Thomas (Bernice) Sullivan Wilson. She attended the public schools of Chesterfield County. At an early age she joined the Angelus Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. She was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Bernice Wilson; sister, Ms. Mae Wilson; nephew, Mickey Wilson; brothers-in-laws, Ned Miller, Charles McBride, Jr., Lanson Blakeney and J.V. Nance Miller. Surviving are: daughter, Patricia Wilson of the home; special godson, Ronald (Muzzie) Wilson of Indian Trail; goddaughter, Ms. Twianda Wilson of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Ms. Mamie Miller, Ms. Elaine Wilson, and Vivian McBride all of Mt. Croghan, Justine (James) Harrell of Jefferson and Hester Mae Blakeney of Pageland; brothers Ray Wilson, Jr, Tommy Lee Wilson, Jimmy Lee Wilson, Mr Johnny (Belinda) Wilson all of Mt. Croghan and Michael (Lillie) Wilson of Marshville; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins and a special dear friend, Wanda Donhue and many other friends. Barbara Jean Yeargin
Barbara Jean Yeargin, 73, died June 17, 2008. A funeral service was held June 20, 2008 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Yeargin in the daughter of the late Olin Godford and Ollie Threatt Deese. Surviving are: her husband, Clyde Morris Yeargin of Indian Trail, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Angie Yeargin of Monroe, N.C.; brother, JT Deese of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters Vertie Riggins of Charlotte, N.C. and Genevieve James of Lancaster, S.C.; and grandsons Brandon Yeargin and Landon Yeargin. Sutton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
