Booker T. Chambers Sr.
PAGELAND — Minister Booker T. Chambers Sr., 69, died June 30, 2008 at CMC-Union in Monroe, N.C. Funeral services were held July 5 at New Meltonville Missionary Baptist Church in Peachland, N.C. He was the son of the late Martin Chambers and Christine Chambers and was born on June 2, 1939 in Anson County, N.C. He was a member of the New Meltonville Missionary Baptist Church in Peachland for many years. He also attended Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Jefferson, S.C. He retired from Cuddy Farms in 1990 after many years of loyal service. Minister Chambers loved helping others, fishing, spending time with his family but most of all he loved to praise God. He also managed the Swanee’s of Pageland for many years. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Margie L. Chambers; two sons, Booker T. Chambers, Jr. (Bernadette) and Robert L. Price (Candida) of Pageland; three daughters, Margie T. Hall (Howard) of Pageland, Bernadette Benton (Floyd) of Charlotte, N.C., and Courtney Chambers (Sy’myles Coleman) of the home; four sisters, Alma Jane Cole of Washington, D.C., Willie Mae Moser, Juanita Crawford, and Vennie Lee Crawford all of Pageland, S.C.; three brothers whom he raised, Rev. Andrew Chambers (Karen) of Wadesboro, N.C., Lloyd Crawford (Deborah) of Pageland, and Frederick Crawford (Shelia) of Monroe, N.C.; eleven grandchildren, Tralves, Charlene, Marvin, Howard Jr., Chiquita, Candiesha, Simonia, Samantha, Tyliyah, Jade, and Robert, Jr.; a great grandchild, Jordan Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret Johnson and Cynthia Crawford; three brothers, Thurman Chambers, Bill Chambers, and Thomas Chambers; a granddaughter, Synora Bra’shay Coleman and a brother-in-law, Rev. Walter Cole.

Ronald L. ‘Pop’ Gulledge
Charlotte, N.C. — Ronald L. “Pop” Gulledge, 56, died July 7, 2008 at Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region. Services were held July 11 at McEwen Pineville Chapel with interment at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Chesterfield.
Gulledge was the son of the late Lloyd Samuel Gulledge and Ruby Brock Gulledge. He is preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Gulledge, Jr.
Surviving are wife of 31 years: Linda Gulledge of the home; children Kimberly Murphy and her husband Richard Murphy of Salisbury, N.C.; Scott Tolliver of Charlotte, N.C., Rhonda Gulledge, and Renee Gulledge of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren Jordan and Kelsie Murphy; brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Sherry Gulledge of Charlotte, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law Jeanne and Bill Schmidt of Newton, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alvin Dewain ‘A.D.’ Hurst Sr.
MORVEN, N.C. - Alvin Dewain “A.D.” Hurst Sr., 84, died July 8, 2008 at Carolinas Medical Center-Union. A funeral service was held July 11, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Ratliff Family Cemetery at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, Casons Old Field, N.C.
Hurst, born in Chesterfield, S.C. and was the son of Novella Campbell and Finley Thomas Hurst. He was a loving and much loved and adored husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Clemson University and was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 34 years and worked in the Chesterfield, and Rock Hill offices. He retired as Postmaster in McFarlan, N.C. He was a devoted Christian, a kindhearted and generous man with unquestionable integrity. He was affectionately known as “Pop”. His great pastime and avocation was the training of field trial bird dogs. He received the H. Cooper Black, Jr. Sportsmanship and Sportsman of the Year Award in 1998-99. In 2002, he was inducted into the South Carolina Bird Dog Hall of Fame. He served as President of the Chesterfield Field Trial Club for many years. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class, the Men’s Club, and served on the Administrative Board. Hurst was preceded in death by his brothers, Leverne Thomas Hurst, and Billy Campbell Hurst and a sister, Myrtis Hurst Teal. Surviving are: Beloved Wife of 61 years, Sue Gulledge Hurst of the home; daughter, Susanne Hurst McGuire and her husband, William Bulgin McGuire, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Alvin Dewain Hurst, Jr. and his wife, Anna Young Hurst of Morven, N.C.; grandchildren, Caroline Robinson McGuire of New York, NY, William Hurst McGuire of Charlotte, N.C., Molly Lauer McGuire of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Ruby Hurst Teal of Winnsboro, S.C.; also numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Helen J. Lewis
CHESTERFIELD — Helen J. Lewis, 78, died July 08, 2008. A funeral service was held July 11, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Lewis, born in Chesterfield, S.C. a daughter of the late Fletcher and Berta Therrell Johnson. She was a retired employee of Chesterfield Dress Company and a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church. Lewis was a devoted Mother who loved her family dearly. She was an avid pet lover, who enjoyed cooking and working outdoors. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William Legette Lewis, brothers, Fletcher Johnson, Jr. and W.M. Johnson, and sisters, Margaret Ann Rivers, Beatrice Bill, and Frances Nolan.
Surviving are: sons, William Jr. (Ann) Lewis of Cheraw, James (Peggy) Lewis of Gaffney, S.C., Larry (Kay) Lewis of Cheraw, Joel (Sara) Lewis and Dennis (Michelle) Lewis both of Chesterfield; daughters, Lucille (Dale) Roscoe of Patrick, Sandra (Bobby) Bennett, and Annette (Dell) McLeod both of Chesterfield; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lydia Tolson of Chesterfield, and Ruby Melton of Patrick; brother, Dicky Johnson of Patrick; Also her beloved pet companions, Precious, Boots, Betsy, Daisy, Lady and Peanut

Wilton Gary Lewallen
HARTSVILLE, S.C. — Wilton Gary Lewallen, 65, died July 8, 2008. A funeral service was held July 10, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Patrick Cemetery.
Lewallen, born in Banks County, GA the son of the late Wilton Benjamin Lewallen and Malisse McFarlin. Born in Homer, GA, Lewallen lived in Toccoa, GA and has resided in Patrick, S.C. for the past 28 years. He was a former employee of Coats & Clark in Toccoa, GA for 19 years, also Bartlett Nuclear, Inc, and has worked in the Nuclear Profession for 28 years. Gary was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. Lewallen was a graduate of Stephens County High School, attended North Georgia Technical School, and received his degree in Computer Science from Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw, S.C. Gary was a member of the Toccoa-Stephens County Jaycees where he served as a director. He was an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball, and loved Georgia Bulldog Football. Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Horace Kaley Lewallen
Surviving are: sons, Gary Brannon Lewallen of Oklahoma City, OK, and Derek Hunley Lewallen of Patrick; brother, Michael McFarlin of Denver, CO; step son, Chad Lambert of Orrville, AL; companion of 24 years, Linda Lewallen of Patrick; also three grandsons.

George F. Moore
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — George F. Moore, 75 died July 9, 2008 at his home. A graveside service was held July 12, 2008 at White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ruby. Moore, born in Newell, N.C. a son of the late George and Viola Wyatt Moore. He was a retired roofer. He was preceded in death by his brother, Buck Moore; and a granddaughter, Michelle Terry.
Surviving are: Wife, Bobbie Moore of the home;
daughter, Pat (Rev. Charles) Terry of Chester, S.C.;
sons, Bill & Bobby Moore of Charlotte, N.C., George (Sandra) Moore of Cramerton, N.C., Phillip (Lisa) Moore of Hampton, GA, and Jeff (Julia) Moore of Lawrenceville, GA; also, nine grandchildren.

Robert Jay Wilkes
HARTSVILLE — Robert Jay Wilkes, Jr., 46, died July 6, 2008 at his home. A graveside service was held July 10, 2008 at Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Wilkes, born in Hartsville, S.C. a son of Robert Jay “Bobby” Wilkes, Sr. and Margaret Wallace Odom. He retired from the restaurant business and attended Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are: daughter, Casey Roscoe of Wallace; father, Bobby (Barbara) Wilkes of Chesterfield;
mother, Margaret Odom of Florence; grandson, Justin Oxendine of Wallace; brothers, Harvey Wilkes of Chesterfield, and James Wilkes of Florence; sisters, Diane Lee of Chesterfield, and Nancy Roberson of Hartsville;
special caregiver, Bonnie Wilkes of Chesterfield.
