Percy Ney Baker
PAGELAND — U.S. Veteran Percy Ney Baker, 91, died June 29, 2008. Services were held July 3 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Baker was an army veteran of WWII. He was also a former member of the Masons and Shriners. Baker was a lifelong farmer. He is the son of the late Daniel and Mary Elizabeth Sweatt Baker.
Baker is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Grace Baker and Scott and Eunice Baker of Monroe, N.C.; grandchildren Benjamin Ney Baker, Kenneth David Baker, Daniel Riston Baker, Adam Scott Baker, Sharon Elizabeth Jones, Laura Anne Bell, Amy Elizabeth Kirkley and 8 great grandchildren.

Maxine Hendrick Boan
CHERAW —Maxine Hendrick Boan, 77, died July 5, 2008. Services were held July 7 at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw.
Boan was the daughter of the late J. Blair and Bernice MooreHendrick. She was a graduate of Mt. Croghan High School andPfeiffer Junior College. Boan retired from the ChesterfieldCounty School District and was a member of Pleasant Hill BaptistChurch.
Surviving are son Sammy Boan and daughter in law, Ellen Rushing Boan; granddaughter Kimberly (Mrs. Billy) Howard and grandson Blair Boan, all of Greenville, S.C.; brothers Bill (Dot) Hendrick, and Gerald (Clara) Hendrick, all of Mt. Croghan, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimers Association National Office for Research, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601

Sue L. Gardner
HATTIESBURG, MISS. — Sue L. Gardner, 88, died June 30, 2008. Services were held July 5 at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Ballard presiding.
Gardner retired from a large department store in Richmond, Va. She was a former member of the Ray of Hope Church of Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Gardner, Sr.
She is survived by sons Joseph M. Gardner, Jr. of Hattiesburg, Miss., and John R. Gardner of McKinney, Texas, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Frank Huntley
CHESTERFIELD — Frank Huntley, 86, died July 1, 2008. Services were held July 3 at Hopewell Baptist Church with interment following in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Chesterfield, Huntley was a son of the late William Elisha and Mary Elizabeth Sellers Huntley. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School class of 1940, and was owner and operator of Huntley’s Garage. He was a member and former deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion Post # 74.
Surviving are wife of 61 years Flora Belle Sellers Huntley, son Keith (Beth) Huntley of Chesterfield; daughter Faye (Rickey) Williams of Chesterfield; grandson Will (Erin) Huntley of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great granddaughter Aubree Huntley of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and sister Virginia Huntley (Joe) Travis of Charlotte, N.C.

Sylvia A. Knight
JEFFERSON — Sylvia A. Knight, 71, died July 4, 2008. Services were held July 7 at Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church with interment following in the church cemetery.
Born in Jefferson, Knight was a daughter of the late Robert David and Thelma Ratliff Knight. She was a member of Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church. Sylvia’s life touched many people and she will greatly be missed by her family and her extended family at Chesterfield Convalescent Center.
Surviving are brothers Carl (Betty Jo) Knight, and Billy Joe Knight all of Jefferson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Clarence T. Lockhart
JEFFERSON — Clarence T. Lockhart, 85, died June 19, 2008.
Service ere held June 29 at Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Jefferson, with burial at Mt. Harmon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pageland.
Lockhart, a native of Chesterfield County, was born to the late Mary Lockhart Sturdivant. During his life, Lockhart was a member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the trustee board, president of the male choir, chairman of the lay council and 30 years as the church school superintendent.
On March 6, 1943, Lockhart enlisted in the U.S. Army entering active service 11 days later March 15. He was stationed at Ft. Jackson, S.C., and served in World War II. Lockhart received the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged from the service Nov. 20, 1945.
Before retiring, Lockhart worked in factory and as a logger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and telling a good joke.
Lockhart was preceded in death by wife Maggie Bracey and son Leroy T. Lockhart.
Lockhart is survived by children Vera Wade and Mary Lynn Miller, of Pageland; Vickie (Calvin) Clark, of Jefferson; Laura Miller, of Charlotte, N.C.,; Peggie (Sterling) Dorsey, of Capital Heights, Md.; Clarence Junior (Linda) Lockhart, of Gaithersburg, Md.; Grayland Lockhart, of Washington D.C.; Billy Lockhart, of Augusta, Ga.; and Ronnie (Tonya) Lockhart and Darrell Lockhart, of Fairfax, Va.; sister Katherleen (James) Jones, of Washington, D.C.; aunts Tressie Moore and Goleva Massey, of Pageland; uncle Matthew Lockhart, of Pageland; sisters-in-law Sarah L. Bracey and Nannie Bracey, of Pageland, brothers-in-law Lee Blakeney, of Washington, D.C., and Jimmy Bracey, of Pageland; 37 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; special friend Doretha Blakeney, of Pageland; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Dorothy Taylor Miller
Jefferson — Dorothy Taylor Miller, 85, of Jefferson, passed away on July 2, 2008. Services were held July 4 at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Taylor and Norma Rowell, husband, Robert Miller and sister, Wynona Eubanks.
Surviving are daughters, Roberta Sneed (Michael) of Monroe, N.C. and Dottie Hill (Dave) of Monroe, N.C., grandchildren, Mark, Steven and Jason Hill and one great grandchild Parker Lynn Hill.

Francis Marion Odom
CHESTERFIELD — Francis Marion Odom, 82, died June 29, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter, S.C. Services were held July 2 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Bennettsville, Odom was a son of the late Richard Harris and Mary Ellen Quick Odom. He faithfully attended Friendship United Methodist Church until his health began to decline. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Francis was the last surviving member of his family of 3 sisters, Helen O. Creech, Pearl O. McDonald, and Cornelia O. Mitchell; and 6 brothers, Rev, Richard Harris Odom, Jr., Elbert Odom, John Earl Odom, James Edward Odom, Vester Odom and Paul Odom. He was preceded in death by wife of 61 years Julia Rae Freeman Odom.
Surviving are daughter Carolyn O. (Don) Ballard; granddaughter Mallory Leigh Leviner; and great granddaughter Kendall Leigh Pierson all of Sumter, S.C.

Roy Franklin Sims
MONROE, N.C. — Roy Franklin Sims, 70, died July 1, 2008. Services were held at Philadelphia Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery.
Sims was the son of the late Herbert Lee and Frances Miller Sims.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Rogers Sims of Monroe, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law. Phillip and Laura Sims of Charlotte, N.C.; and granchild, Tyler Sims.

Cindy Lou Linton Stafford
CHERAW — Cindy Lou Linton Stafford, 48, died July 03, 2008 at her home. Services were held July 6 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Forest Pine Church Cemetery.
Born in Cheraw, Stafford was a daughter of the late Rosia Nevel Linton and Margaret AycockLinton Davis. She was a homemaker and member of Forest PinesChurch. Cindy was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Alan Linton and by a sister, Brenda Faye Sims.
Surviving are husband Joe E. Stafford of the home; son Timothy Tipton of Gate City, Va.; daughter Amanda Lynn Wilson of Cheraw; stepdaughters Joanna Stafford, Jennifer S. (Chris) Flowers, and Joni Stafford, all of Cheraw; grandchildren including Dameon Burgess, of the home; 4 step grandchildren; brother: Andy (Jeanette) Linton, of Cheraw,; sisters: Sue (Pete) Hall of Lancaster, Gail (Richard) Furr and Diane (Buddy) Burr, both of Cheraw.
