Margaret ‘Maggie’ Goodale Barthlow
PATRICK – Margaret “Maggie” Goodale Barthlow, 92, died July 2, 2007 at Carolina Pines Hospital. A funeral service was held July 5 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Patrick Cemetery.
Barthlow, born in Patrick, was a daughter of the late Edward and Carrie Williams Cranford. She was a homemaker and a member of New Providence Baptist Church.
She was first married to the late Elijah Goodale and then to the late Cleve Barthlow and was also preceded in death by sister, Edith Davis; brothers, Edward and David Cranford.
Surviving are sons Robert (Linda) Goodale, of Severna Park, Md., and Carl Goodale, of Patrick; daughters Carol (Bernard) Fatig, of Hartsville, S.C., Elaine Fenzel, of Denton, Md., and Rhona Mallory of Annapolis, Md.; brother Henry Cranford, of Hartsville, S.C.; sisters Dorothy Floyd, of Darlington, S.C., Desseree McLain, of Patrick, Eloise Ross and Joyce Woodward, of Florence, S.C.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

James ‘Bo’ Evans
CHESTERFIELD – The Rev. James “Bo” Evans, 73, died June 27, 2007. A funeral service was held July 2 at Mount Mary Baptist Church with burial in Apostolic Faith Church Cemetery.
Evans, born in Chesterfield County, was a son of the late Tommie Jean and Viola Hinson Evans. He was a loyal and dedicated construction and pulpwood worker and attended Mount Mary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by daughter Mary Evans; son Timothy Evans, and brother Sammie Evans.
Surviving are wife Addie Lee Evans; daughters Shirley (Freeman) Isaac and Mary Duncan, both of Chesterfield, Martha Evans and Cat Evans, both of Baltimore, Md.; sons Johnny and James Evans, Ronnie Duncan, of Chesterfield, Jerry (Martina) Evans, of Monroe, N.C., Pursell, Gerald, Jamie Lee, and William Evans, all of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters Rachel Wilson, Mary Ann Merriman and Mary Frances Stanley, all of Chesterfield; brothers Howard Evans, of Plainsville, N.J., Robert Evans, of Cheraw, Johnny, William and Tommie Lee Evans, all of Chesterfield; special granddaughter Laneshia Evans of Memphis, Tenn.; special grandson,Tyrone (Tawana) Duncan, of Chesterfield; 30 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Betty Wallace Russ
PAGELAND – Betty Wallace Russ, 53, died July 4, 2007. A funeral service was held July 7 at Sutton Funeral Home Chapel.
She was a daughter of the late John and Flossie Wallace.
Surviving are husband Henderson Eugene Russ, of Monroe, N.C.; son Timothy Russ, of Pageland; daughters Tina Russ, of Pageland and Tracy Courtney, of Monroe, N.C.; step-sons Frankie, Scottie and Henderson Russ III, all of Pageland; step-daughter Florence Russ, of Pageland; brothers Billy Wallace, of Marshville, N.C., and Ray Cline, of Polkton, N.C.; sister, Ruth Cline Isenhour, of Pageland; and eight grandchildren.

Coldell Welch
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coldell Welch, 71, died June 26, 2007. A funeral service was held July 1 at Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Welch, born in Lancaster County, was a son of the late Baxter Lee and Easter Mungo Welch. He retired after 32 years of service from Estes Express Lines in Charlotte, N.C. and attended St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife Carolyn J. Cobb; sisters Atherine (Vanus) McManus, Pearl (Frank) Love, and Marie (Russell Curtis) Hughes, all of Washington, D.C.; brothers Roosevelt (Tina Leake) Welch, Willie (Sandra Spain) Welch, and Billie (Linda Patterson) Welch, all of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces, Louise (Bill) Lucas, of Washington, D.C., Ola Jean (Al) Avant, of Indian Trail, N.C. and Karen Byrd, of Wadesboro, N.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ronald Eugene ‘Ronnie’ Welsh
CHESTERFIELD – Ronald Eugene “Ronnie” Welsh, 59, died July 1, 2007. A funeral service was held July 3 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Welsh, born in Chesterfield, was a son of the late Jadie Wilbert and Geneva Griggs Welsh. He was a retired textile employee and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by brother Jerry Welsh.
Surviving are son Darrin (Marquita) Welsh, of Grayson, Ky.; daughter Tammy (Dale) Tyner-Walters, of Chesterfield; grandsons Stephen Tyner, of Clemson University, Dustin and Kip Tyner, of Chesterfield, and Trenton Welsh, of Grayson, Ky..

Earl Speight Jr.
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. – Earl Speight Jr., 53, died July 3, 2007. A funeral service was held July 7 at Smyrna United Methodist Church.
Speight, born in Lumberton, N.C., was a son of George and Juanita Currin Alexson. He was owner and operator of Earl’s Upholstery and enjoyed hiking and camping.
He was preceded in death by brother Sam Speight and sister Wanda Lynn Alexson.
Surviving are wife of 25 years Jenny Gaskins Speight; parents; sons, Christopher George (Trina) Speight, of Bennettsville, S.C., and Dane (fiance Jenny Gay) Horne, of Moundville, Ala.; daughter,Alicia (Kevin) Griggs, of Wallace, S.C.; sisters Linda Herndon, of Laurel Hill, N.C. and Faye Brigman, of Wallace, S.C.; and grandchildren Gage Speight, Hannah and Kevin Scott Griggs Jr.
