Melba Rivers Brock
CHESTERFIELD — Melba Rivers Brock, 78 died May 20, 2008 at her home. A funeral service was held May 22, 2008 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with burial in Church. Mrs. Brock, born Chesterfield, S.C. a daughter of Mattie Lua Gardner Rivers and the late John Weldon Rivers. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High and retired as office manager with Chesterfield Manufacturing Co. Mrs. Brock was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMW, the Ladies Bible Class, and served as former Trustee, and MYF Counselor. Melba was married to the late John Henry Brock and was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Lou Davis.
Surviving are: sons, John H. (Becky) Brock, Jr. and Bill (Nancy) Brock both of Chesterfield; daughters, Rachel B. Jeffcoat of Chesterfield, Luann B. (Rick) Sellers of Mt. Pleasant, and Martha Kay (Barry) Atkinson of Laurens, S.C.; mother, Mattie Lua Gardner Rivers of Chesterfield; 10 grandchildren, Melissa (Lance) Abernathy, Jamie (Tina) Privette, Leslie (Burt) Huggins, Lauren Clark, Dan (Amanda) Atkinson, Mandy Atkinson, Pamela D. Brock, SSgt. Jonathan A. Brock, English Brock, and Eliza Brock; also 9 Great Grandchildren; brothers, Nelson Rivers, Reverend Lindsey Rivers, and J. W. Rivers all of Chesterfield; special caregiver, Sarah W. Hennessy of Chesterfield.

Jessie ‘Dick’ Dixon
PATRICK - Jessie “Dick” Dixon, 67, died May 21, 2008.
A funeral service was held May 24, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Palmetto Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dixon born, in Darlington, S.C. a son of the late Brock and Idell Hicks Dixon. He was a retired carpenter and Air Force veteran. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Winery Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harvey L. “Hob” Dixon and Anglish Dixon.
Surviving are: Companion of 15 years, Caroline O’Neal; sons, Randy L. (Glenda) Dixon of Patrick, Jessie “Gene” (Judy) Dixon, and Richard “Cotton” (Penny) Dixon both of Chesterfield; daughters, Missy Shaw and Ricky Griggs of Cheraw, and Rachel Medford of Patrick; brother, Elijah (Doris) Dixon of Chesterfield; sisters, Rachel Yarborough of McBee, Patricia Rogers of Chesapeake, VA, Ann (Max) McCormick of Cheraw, and Becky Ann (Frank) Hayden of Suffolk, VA; also eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Nelson Gardner
Chesterfield — William Nelson Gardner, age 74, died May 21, 2008. Services were held May 24 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Gardner was born October 13, 1933 in Chesterfield, a son of the late Lawrence Nelson and Sarah Frances Hunter Gardner. He was a retired Industrial Pipe Fitter. Gardner was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed flea markets and auctions. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Gardner, a brother, Coyt Gardner, 2 sisters, Lillian Rayfield and Jean Davis.
Surviving are wife Kay Clanton Gardner of the home, sons: Nelson (Kathy) Gardner of Seneca, S.C., Rev. Jeff (Teresa) Gardner of Hartsville, S.C., Jerry Gardner of Walhalla, S.C., Scott (Allison) Gardner of Chesterfield, S.C., Chris (Liberti) Gardner of Ruby, S.C. and David Hair of Ruby, 1 Daughter: Sharon (Mike) Kimrey of Cheraw, brother Frankie (Donna) Gardner, of Hartsville, sister: Alice (Wes) Spindler, of Charlotte, NC, brother-in-law Dicky Davis, of Chesterfield, 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, S.C. 29709.

Mary Steen Melton
CHERAW — Mary Steen Melton, 85, died Monday, May 19, 2008. Born in Bennettsville, S.C. she was a daughter of the late Hope and Minnie Roscoe Steen. She was the widow of Robert C. Melton. She was a member of Windsor Park Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed Fishing, Gardening and Bible Study.
Surviving are her sons, Robert E. Melton, James Michael Melton, Richard L. Melton all of Cheraw, S.C., a daughter, Mary Ann (Kenny) Bradshaw of Hartsville, S.C., sisters, Marcella Keith of Spartanburg, S.C., Martha Melton and Frances Reynolds both of Cheraw, S.C., Margaret Chavis and Lillian Pope both of Bennettsville, S.C., 6 Grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The family received friends 5 to 7 p.m. May 21 at Kiser Funeral Home, in Cheraw.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. May 22 at Windsor Park Freewill Baptist Church, Cheraw, S.C. Burial will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

George N. Wallace Jr.
PAGELAND — George N. Wallace Jr., 69, died May 17, 2008, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Chesterfield County. A funeral service was held May 19, 2008 at Wolf Pond Baptist Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
Wallace was born in Union County to George N. Wallace Sr. and Gladys Wensil Wallace Knight. He retired from Textrol Industries where he was a Supervisor and Machinist for many years. He was an active member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher and was involved in many church activities.
Surviving are: wife of 50 years, Martha Wallace of Pageland; sons, Eddie (Patricia) Wallace, Timothy (Lydia) Wallace and Jeffrey Wallace; brothers, Henry (Dorothy) Wallace of Evansville, Ind, Lee (Diane) Wallace of Pageland, Robert (Sylvia) Wallace of Falfurris, Tex, John (Debbie) Wallace of Central Point, Ore., Gene (Jenny) Wallace, Lewis (Susan) Wallace, Harry Wallace, and Marvin (Debbie) Wallace all of Monroe; grandchildren, Brandon (Allison) Wallace, Joshua and Nicholas Wallace all of Marshville, Drew and Mallory Wallace, Mitchell, Johnathon, and Bethany Wallace all of Pageland; and great- grandchildren, Cameron, Dylan, Rylea and Kaylin Wallace.
