Jesse Edward ‘Big Bug’ Edgeworth Jr.
Jesse Edward “Big Bug” Edgeworth Jr., 50, died May 6, 2008 in Rockingham, N.C. A funeral services was held May 12 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pageland.
He was the son of Jesse Edgeworth Sr. and the late Annis Funderburk Edgeworth and was born Nov. 10, 1957 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Jesse was educated in the public schools of Pageland, S.C. and at a young age started helping his uncle in the carpet installation business. This trade was his chosen profession and he loved it dearly. Jesse was a very generous and lovable person and was known for his humor and kindness. He attended Pentecostal Assemble Holiness Church in Cheraw, S.C. where he confessed Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annis Funderburk Edgeworth and brother, Rodney J. Edgeworth.
Survivors include wife Beverly, of Cheraw; daughters, Taketa “Brandi” Davis (Va Quadis), ALezia “Lacy” Edgeworth, Kimbely Edgeworth, all of Charlotte, N.C.; step-son, Ronnie Lane (Vanessa) of Salisbury, N.C.; step-daughters, Tushina Clark of Charlotte, N.C., Angie Lane (Richard) of Cheraw, S.C. and Jannetta Peterkin (Barry) of Wallace, S.C.; his father, Jesse E. Edgeworth, Sr. of Pageland; four brothers, John Edward “Mickey” Clyburn (Robin), Reggie Blakeney, Brain Edgeworth, and Ryan Edgeworth; two sisters, Sherry Wright (Don) of Jefferson, and Stephine Edgeworth of Pageland; mother-in-law, Jorretta Ballard of Cheraw; one brother-in-law, Richard James Howard of Cheraw; five sisters-in-law, Nezzie Chapman (William), Josephine Jackson, Marilyn Griggs, Gracie Johnson, and Kathy Burns (Tommy) all of Cheraw; a very special cousin, Tony Funderburk of Monroe, N.C. who was raised in the home; fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild; two uncles, one aunt, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Henry L. Gulledge
RUBY — Henry L. Gulledge, 83, died May 6, 2008. Services were held May 8 at Ruby Baptist Church with interm
Gulledge was born Nov. 18, 1924 in Ruby, a son of the late James Arthur and Rosa Lee James Gulledge. He retired after 24 years as owner of The Country Store in Ruby, S.C. Gulledge was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Mt. Croghan-Ruby American Legion Post 134. He was a faithful member of Ruby Baptist Church. Henry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking and helping his friends.
He was preceded in death by sisters Frances “Polly” Payne and Nancy Gulledge.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years Juanita King Gulledge of the home, sisters Crystal Faile of Fort Lawn, S.C. and Bessie (Bronze) Rorie of Pageland, and a number of nieces and nephews including Beth and Henry Suggs and their children Bryce and Alex.

Edell Johnson
MCBEE - Edell Jones Johnson, 93, widow of Glenn Johnson, died May 11, 2008. Funeral services were held May 13 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Homer Hinson and Danny Holley officiated with burial in the church cemetery.
Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late James L. and Emma Steen Jones. She was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Alvin and Anne Johnson of Hartsville, S.C., Michael Glenn and Debbie Johnson of Hartsville, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia Ann and Jerry Holley of McBee, S.C.; sister, Eloise Bullard of Hartsville, S.C.; grandchildren (spouse), Jerry D. “Punk” Holley Jr., Ronald (Debra) Holley, Danny C. (Naomi) Holley, William Johnson, Greg (Greta) Johnson, Lori Anne (Shon) Rivers, Michael (Brandi) Johnson Jr.; 9 great-grandchildren.
Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home of Hartsville was in charge of services.

Curtis McLain
PATRICK- Curtis McLain, 77, died May 15, 2008.
A funeral service was held May 18, 2008 at St. John Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
McLain was born September 7, 1930 in Chesterfield County a son of the late Mason Lee and Katie Gulledge McLain. He was a retired employee of Delta Mills with 47 years of service and a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church. Curtis was married to the late Genevieve Gainey McLain and was also preceded in death by his daughter Glenda McLain.
Surviving are: son, Thomas McLain, Jr. of Patrick; grandchildren, Katie Michelle McLain and fiancé Billy Crawford of Cheraw, and Joshua McLain and fiancée Megan Zearfoss of Patrick; sister, Dorothy Shaw of Patrick; special niece, Shelby (Tommy) Bailey of Patrick.
Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Ann Briggman Smith
BENNETTSVILLE — Shirley Ann Briggman Smith, 74, died May 14, 2008.
A funeral service was held May 16, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, with burial
in the Sunset Memorial Park, Bennettsville, S.C.
Smith born, in Orangeburg, S.C. a daughter of the late Charles and Thelma Edwins Briggman. She was a retired private duty caregiver. Smith was married to the late Fredrick Leon Smith and was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Myers.
Surviving are: sons, Charles Eugene “Chuck” Smith of Cheraw, Samuel Dean “Sam” Smith and Michael Smith both of Bennettsville; daughters, Donna S. (Randy) Wallace of Bennettsville, Rebecca S. (Walter) Arnette of Dillon, S.C., Dee S. (Ted) Rodgers of Rockingham, N.C., and Ellen Smith of Bennettsville; brothers, Charles “Sonny” Briggman of Lexington, S.C., William “Bill” Briggman of Orangeburg, S.C., and Wesley Briggman of Stockton, CA; sister, Jacquline Townsend of North, S.C.; also 14 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.
