Charles Ray Atkinson
MT. CROGHAN — Charles Ray Atkinson, 84, died May 3, 2008.
A funeral service was held May 6, 2008 at Mt. Croghan Baptist Church with burial will follow at the Mt. Croghan Memorial Park.
Atkinson, born in Mt. Croghan, S.C. a son of the late Thomas Hendrick and Hilda Burch Atkinson. He was a graduate of Mt. Croghan High School and attended Clemson College. Atkinson was retired owner of Atkinson Texaco and was also associated with Tri – State Trucking and Chesterfield Drug Company. He was a veteran of WW II having served as a Second Engineer in the American Merchant Marines. Charles Ray was a faithful member of Mt. Croghan Baptist Church, where he served as Church Treasurer for many years.
Surviving are: wife of 60 years, Edith Dalrymple Atkinson of the home; sons, Tommy (Libby) Atkinson of Chesterfield, and Barry (Martha Kay) Atkinson of Laurens, S.C.; daughter, Karen (Ralph) Watson of Chesterfield;
sister, Margaret A. Huntley of Ruby; grandchildren, Kevin (Gena) Atkinson of Lexington, S.C., Jason (Britton) Atkinson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Dan (Amanda) Atkinson of Greer, S.C., Mandy Atkinson of Laurens, S.C., Candice Watson of Forest City, N.C., and Derek Watson of Chesterfield, S.C.
great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Allison, and Ella Atkinson.

Vera Funderburk Campbell
PAGELAND —Vera Funderburk Campbell, 82, died April 18, 2008. She was born in Chesterfield County, S.C. to the late Henry Luther and Ida Threatt Funderburk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe J. Campbell. She is survived by 2 sisters: Lois McManus and Shirley Hancock of Pageland and was preceded in death by her brothers: Reece, L.H., and Don Funderburk. A graveside service was held April 20 at 3 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord, N.C. Sutton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joyce H. Douglas
TAYLORS, S.C. — Joyce H. Douglas, 71, wife of Elwyn K. Douglas, died May 1, 2008 at McCall Hospice House. Born in Pageland, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Jesse Roscoe and Fannie Price Hathaway. Douglas was retired from the Greenville County School District and a member of Lee Road Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons Keith (Janice) Douglas of Greer, Barry (Renita) Douglas of Taylors; grandchildren, David and Kellie Douglas and Chad and Ali Reece. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Gardner Holley and a brother, Richard Hathaway. Memorials may be made to Lee Road Baptist Church, 1503 E. Lee Road, Taylors, S.C. 29687 or McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, S.C. 29680. Burial was held in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Margaret Cumber Hatcher
WALLACE — Margaret Cumber Hatcher, 83 died May 4, 2008 at her home. A funeral service was held May 7, 2008 at Cheraw Church of God with burial in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Hatcher, born in Marlboro County, S.C. a daughter of the late Eldridge and Rachel Steen Cumber. She was a retired textile employee. Hatcher was a member of Cheraw Church of God and attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother Ed Cumber, and by three sisters, Lee English, Lib Watson, and Hazel Elkins.
Surviving are: husband, Carnell Hatcher of the home; son, Gregory (Lynn) Hatcher of Wallace; daughter, Pam (Kenneth) Ard of Cheraw;
brothers, J.C. Cumber of Hartsville, S.C. and Perry Cumber of Rockingham, N.C.; sisters, Naomi Outlaw of Rockingham, N.C. and Inez Smith of York, S.C.; also four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ronnie Murrell Lynch
PAGELAND — Ronnie Murrell Lynch, 62, died April 30, 2008.
A funeral service was held May 5, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel.
Lynch, born in Florence County, a son of Gladys Nettles Lynch and the late Foster Lynch.
Surviving are: mother, Gladys Nettles Lynch of Fort Mill, S.C.; sister, Joyce L. (Larry) Lee of Fort Mill, S.C.

Evelyn Jordan MacAdams
PAGELAND — Evelyn Jordan MacAdams, 76, died May 3, 2008.
A funeral service was held May 5, 2008 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
MacAdams, born in Chesterfield, a daughter of the late Arthur and Lula Hunter Jordan. She was a retired Branch Manager with Safeway Finance Company. MacAdams was preceded in death by a son Mike Long, brothers, Carson, Julius, Ward, Everette, and Van Jordan, and sisters, Consolo Jordan and Billie McManus.
Surviving are: husband Glenn D. MacAdams of the home; sons, Tim (Mary) Long of Brunswick, GA and Steve (Linda) Long of Pageland;
grandchildren, T.J. and Bethany Long and Brian and Mark Long; sisters, Katie Lee McMurrian of Pageland and Myrtle Thurman of Ruby.

Beatrice Davis Maples
JEFFERSON — Beatrice Davis Maples, 80, died May 1, 2008. A funeral ser, May 4, 2008 at Macedonia Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Maples, born in Chesterfield, a daughter of the late Dewey Thurman and Reba Clariece Stanton Davis. She was a homemaker and an avid flower gardener. Beatrice was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was married to the late Jesse Maples and was also preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Dale Davis, Mary Frances Hayes, and Lois Robertson.
Surviving are: brother and sister in law, Bobby and Barbara Davis of Indian Trail, N.C.; a number of nieces and nephews.

John Edward Miller
JEFFERSON—John Edward Miller (a.k.a. James Daniel), 66, died April 30, 2008 at CMC-Union in Monroe, N.C. Services were held May 4 at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Jefferson. He was the son of the late Marshall Miller and the late Axie McMillan Miller and was born Jan. 27, 1942 in Jefferson. At a young age, he joined Hopewell United Methodist Church and attended the Chesterfield County Schools. In 1958 at the age of sixteen, he moved to New York, New York where he worked and retired from the Liberty Letter Service. He was a faithful member of McClinton Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Miller, his mother, Axie M. Miller, a brother, Marshall Miller, Jr., and a sister, Doretha Miller. Surviving are two daughters, Soraya Miller-Ansah (Benjamin) and Tarita Miller both of New York, N.Y.; a son, John Edward Miller, Jr. of New York, N.Y.; his father, Marshall Miller Sr. of Jefferson, S.C.; two sisters, Martha Miller and Genevieve M. Robinson both of Jefferson, S.C.; five brothers, Roosevelt Miller (Minnie), David Miller (Donna) both of Pageland, S.C., Ulysses Miller (Brenda), Howard Miller (Patricia) both of Jefferson, S.C. and Robert Miller (Lula) of Mt. Croghan, S.C.; three grandchildren, Shantel, Kyle, and DeShawn; an uncle, Samuel McMillian (Roberta); an aunt, Gladys McMillan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James Henry Mullis

PAGELAND — James Henry Mullis, 69, died May 7, 2008 at CMC in Charlotte, N.C. He was born March 28,1939 in Union County, N.C., a son of the late Kemp Pernay Mullis and the late Janie Ellen Deason Mullis. Mullis is survived by four sons: James Mullis of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ricky Mullis, Rodney Mullis, and Reggie Mullis all of Pageland; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; two sisters: Ercel Laney of Monroe, N.C. and Kathryn Gaddy of Marshville, N.C., also his former wife, Patsy Mullis Langley of Pageland. Funeral services were held May 10 at Beulah Prebyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Mike Rogers and Rev. Brian Arrant, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to Beulah Presbyterian Church, 8305 Landsford Road, Monroe, N.C., 28112. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mullis.
