Lee R. Bowman
CHERAW – Lee R. Bowman,54, died March 24, 2007 at home. A funeral service was held March 29 at Word of Life Fellowship Church with burial in Florence National cemetery, Florence, S.C.
Bowman, born in Cheraw, was a son of the late James and Ruth E. Gillespie Bowman. Bowman was retired from INA Bearing after seventeen years of employment. He served as president of the Disciple of Christ singing group, senior usher and many other capacities, he served as chairman of the trustee board, president of the adult choir at Smithville A.M.E. Zion Church. He later joined Progressive Church of Our Lord and Jesus Christ, Inc. of Chesterfield.
Surviving are wife of 34 years Anna Pearl Bowman; children Sharay (Joseph) Robinson, of Cheraw, Michell (James) Spencer, of Bennettsville, S.C., Trynard D. Bowman, of Bennettsville, and Joshua L. Douglas, of Society Hill, S.C.; sisters Betty Pope, of Baltimore, Md. and Ann Roberts, of Cheraw; brother James Bowman, of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.
Flemming Funeral Home of Cheraw was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred A. Rutland Croxton
RUBY – Mildred A. Rutland Croxton, 81, died March 26, 2007. A graveside service was held March 28 at Chesterfield cemetery.
Croxton, born in Winnsboro, S.C., was a daughter of the late Walter and Bessie Sharpe Rutland. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Edgar M. Croxton Jr. and sister Jeanette Mann.
Surviving are son Edgar M. (Carolyn) Croxton, of Ruby; daughters Jean Maples, of York, S.C. and Dianne (Butch) Dycus, of Newberry, S.C.; brother Rev. Walter Rutland Jr., of Great Falls and Winnsboro, S.C.; sisters Naomi Branham, of Batesburg, S.C., Verna Hawkins, of Jenkinsville, S.C., Betty Truesdale, of Winnsboro, S.C. and Bobbie Weed, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Shelton Dunlap
PAGELAND – Shelton Dunlap, 71, died March 4, 2007 at CMC-Mercy, Charlotte, N.C. A funeral service was held March 7 at Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in church cemetery.
Dunlap, born in Chesterfield County, was a son of the late Robert and Fredonia Crosby Dunlap. He was a member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and retired from C.M. Tucker Lumber Company.
Surviving are son Howard Dunlap, of Newport News, Va.; daughters Belinda (Michael) Caldwell, of Birmingham, Ala., Cathy (Johnny) Moore, of Lancaster, S.C., Brenda Dunlap, Phyllis (Elmore,Jr.) Robinson, Paula (James) Kirby, Annie Dunlap, Melissa (Everette) Gaines, and Cinzia (Allen) Blakeney, all of Jefferson, Peggy (Randy) Austin, Vivian (Harry) Miller, and Karen Dunlap, all of Pageland; brothers Cecil (Jimmie Lou) Dunlap, of Jefferson, Leo Dunlap, of Monroe, N.C., Robert (Elois) Dunlap and Billy Dunlap, both of Pageland; sisters Lizzie (Gene) Moore, of Jefferson, Yvonne (Commodore) Blakeney and Annette Dunlap, both of Pageland; 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

James A. Funderburk
PAGELAND – James A. Funderburk, 59, died March 27, 2007. A funeral service was held March 30 at Grace Baptist Church. He was retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving are wife Nancy G. Funderburk; son Chucky (Carol Ann) Funderburk, of Jefferson; mother Verla Funderburk, of Pageland; daughter Ginger (Duane) Rape, of Monroe, N.C.; brothers Bill (Linda) Funderburk, of Pageland and Mike (Doris) Funderburk, of Monroe, N.C.; sister Betty (Jessie) Evans, of Pageland.

Randal B. Jordan
PAGELAND – Randal B. Jordan, 46, died Feb. 10, 2007. A funeral service was held Feb. 12 at Sutton Funeral Home Chapel. He was a retired forklift operator and a member of The Rose Memorial Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are fiancée Rhonda Plyler, of Pageland; mother Betty Jordan, of Pageland; step-children Tabitha Pate, Justin Plyler, Brittany Plyler; step-grandchildren, Bailey and Connor Pate; sister Debbie Helms, of Pageland; brothers LaVere, Charles and David Jordan, all of Pageland.

Jennifer M. Lewis
PAGELAND – Jennifer M. Lewis, 41, died March 24, 2007. A graveside service was held March 27 at Five Forks Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by son Steven Eugene Hartis.
Surviving are husband Ricky Dean Lewis, of Pageland; son Ricky Lewis, of Pageland; mother Patricia M. Haynes, of Clover, S.C.; sisters Lesa Rena Queen, of Gastonia, N.C. and Paula H. Kale, of Dallas, N.C.; and special aunt Betty Truelove Whiteside, of Stanley, N.C.

Nell Jenkins Mangum
PAGELAND – Nell Jenkins Mangum, 103, died March 28, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Charlotte, N.C. A funeral service was held March 31 at Zion United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Mangum, born in Chesterfield County, was a daughter of the late R. Whiteford and Ella Wallace Jenkins. She was a graduate of University of South Carolina and taught school in Chesterfield County for 43 years. She was the oldest surviving member of Zion United Methodist Church where she was affectionately known as “Miss Nell.” She served as Sunday School teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by husband Ems L. Mangum; infant son-Billie Mangum; granddaughter Carol Whitehurst; sister Otis Smith; and brothers Dewitt, Drew and Hazel Jenkins.
Surviving are daughters Wilhelmina “Boots” Whitehurst, of Charlotte, N.C. and Sue (Joseph) Barr, of Wadesboro, N.C.; sisters-in-law Myrtle Kemenczky, of Charlotte, N.C., and Lillie Mangum, of Pageland; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Clarence Washington
JEFFERSON – Clarence Washington Sr., 81, died March 24, 2007 at CMC-Charlotte, N.C. A funeral service was held March 30 at Bethel Hill Baptist Church, Bethune, S.C. with burial in the church cemetery.
Washington, born in Kershaw County, was a son of the late Early and Annie Davidson Washington. He enlisted in the US Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, McBee and McCaskill Lodge #308 of F & AM. In 1976 he entered into the ministry and was ordained in the Baptist field. He received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity in 1978 from Universal Life Church.
He was preceded in death by wife Elaine Miller Washington.
Surviving are sons Clarence and Marcel (Ethel) Washington, of Jefferson; daughter Eloise (Charlie) Brown, of Jefferson; special niece Thelma Hargrove, of Lugoff, S.C.; special nephew Curtis Gaskins, of Lugoff, S.C.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
