The Rev. Alphues D. Evans

PAGELAND - The Rev. Alphues D. Evans, 81, died Oct. 24, 2007. A funeral service was held Oct. 27 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Evans, born in Pageland, was the son of the late Lee Roy and Eva Allie Griffin Evans. He attended Wingate College and Fruitland Bible College, and was a retired Baptist minister having served churches in North and South Carolina. He was a member of Union Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Helen Funderburk Evans; son David Evans; brothers W.L. and Everette Evans.
Surviving are daughters Mary E. Hodge of Darlington, S.C. and Jean E. (Leroy Jr.) Sikes of Mt. Croghan; sister Geraldine E. Atkinson of Pageland; brothers, Roy Thomas Evans of Monroe, N.C., Marvin Evans of Marshville, N.C. and Charles Evans of Chesterfield; five grandchildren Shelia (Jevin) Whitaker, Eric Sikes both of Mt. Croghan; Tony (Sandy) Evans, Kristy (Jason) Melton both of Ruby; Tammy H. Sikes of Darlington, S.C.; five great grandchildren Jonathan, Brandon, Trevor, Aaron and Becky.

Vermil Hough
JEFFERSON - Vermil Hough, 87, died Oct. 13, 2007. A funeral service was held Oct. 20 at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery.
Hough, born in Lancaster County, was a daughter of the late Hollis and Arievia Blackwell Hough. She was retired from Bluefield State College. She was a member of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, senior choir, adult Sunday School class and a member of the missionary ministry.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Elease Newman, Virgie Louallen, Joe Elaine McManus, Collera Catherine Louallen, Evangeline Myers; brother Detroit (D.T.) Hough.
Surviving are son, Nelson (Lisa) Griffin, Jr. of London, Ky.; daughters, Betsy (Rick) Freeman of Seneca, S.C., Chris (Paul) Brown and Sylvia Griffin of London, Ky.; sisters, Earnestine Cobb of Columbus, Ga., Amanda (Daniel) Jackson, Arlevia Brumfield and Lethia (David) Sellers of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother James Hough of Pageland; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bobby Wilson Jackson
WINGATE,N.C. - Bobby Wilson Jackson, 77, died Oct. 16, 2007 at CMC-Union. A funeral service was held Oct. 19 at Faulks Baptist Church, Marshville, N.C., with burial in the church cemetery.
Jackson, born in Chesterfield County, was a son of the late Robert Lee and Bessie Sullivan Jackson. He was a retired shading manager of the Customer Service Center at Springs Industries. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Mary Jo Braswell Jackson.
Surviving are wife Jean Purser Jackson; sons Donald Wilson Jackson of Wesley Chapel, N.C. and Bobby Dennis Jackson of Roxboro, N.C.; stepdaughter Sandy Wicker of Wingate, N.C.; brothers, Jack Jackson of Lansing, Michigan, Therald Jackson of Monroe, N.C., John and Robert Jackson of Pageland; sister Margaret Tippens of Marshville, N.C.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Nyokia Hodge Melton
CHESTERFIELD - Nyokia Hodge Melton, 52, died Oct. 23, 2007 at her home. A funeral service was held Oct. 25 at Mt. Croghan Baptist Church with burial in Oakland Baptist Church cemetery.
Melton, born in Ruby, was a daughter of Jeanette Brock Hodge and the late Johnnie “Son” Hodge. She was a store clerk and a member of Mt. Croghan Baptist Church.
Surviving are husband, Curtis Ray Melton; mother; brothers, Asa Ray and Homer Hodge both of Ruby, Charles Hodge of Lancaster, S.C., and Rev. Wayne Hodge of Ruby; sisters, Audrey Parker of Ruby, Bonnie Parson of St. Peteresburg, FL, Louise Hancock of Ruby, Betty Boatwright of Columbia, S.C. and Judy Campbell of Chesterfield; several nieces, nephews and her faithful dog, Dusty.

Flonnie Sowell Robinson
JEFFERSON – Flonnie Sowell Robinson, 94, died Oct. 18, 2007 at CMC-Union. A funeral service was held Oct. 22 at Crossroad Baptist Church in Kershaw, S.C., with burial in the church cemetery.
Robinson, born in Kershaw, was a daughter of the late Bud Sampson and Lizzie Railey Sowell. She was a member of Crossroad Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Gates O.E.S. She was married to Early Robinson, Sr. and to this union eleven children were born. She was preceded in death by son Johnny Robinson.
Surviving are daughters, Mary (Billy) Parker of San Juan, CA, Sylvia Blackwell of Jefferson, and Rudene (Robert) Feldon of Englewood, NJ; sons, Early (Deloris) Robinson, Jr. of Chesapeake,VA, Dr. Waldo (Jean) Robinson, Hazel Robinson, and Elmore (Susie) Robinson all of Jefferson, Curtis Robinson of Tulsa, OK, Hade Robinson and Hiawatha (Shavson) Robinson both of Pageland; two granddaughters she raised as her own Kathy (Frankie) Danzy of Jefferson and Lavonne Robinson Sullivan of Charlotte, N.C.; nephew she raised David Robinson of Charlotte, N.C.; 28 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; sister Flossie Clyburn of New York; host of other relatives and friends.
