George William ‘Buddy’ Courtney
MONROE, N.C. - George William “Buddy” Courtney, 58, died October 13, 2007 at CMC-Union. A funeral service was held October 17 at Lee Park Baptist Church with burial in Lakeland Memorial Park cemetery. Courtney, born in Union County, was a son of the late Charles Augustus and Emmie Laney Courtney. He was a truck driver with Wayne Edwards & Son. Surviving are wife Margaret Ruth Williams Courtney; son, Gary William Courtney of Monroe, N.C.; daughters, Melissa Cartelli of Monroe, N.C. and Mary Courtney of the home; brother, Thomas Charles Courtney of Pageland; sisters, Shirley Hatley, Jill Watson, Robin Jenkins and Toni Ayers all of Pageland, Peggy Barwick and Brenda Harvell both of Monroe, N.C. and Ann Gaddy of Marshville, N.C.; god mother Ruth Courtney of Monroe, N.C.; five grandchildren. Davis Funeral and Cremation Service, Monroe, N.C., was in charge of the arrangements.


Patty Gray Dingus
PAGELAND - Patty Gray Dingus, 87, died October 16, 2007.
A graveside service was held at Temple Hill Cemetery in Castle Wood, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Otto B. and Sina Jones Dingus. Surviving are sister Joanne Wheeler of Zirconia, N.C.; nieces and nephews. Sutton Funeral Home, Pageland, was in charge of the arrangements.

Wayland Eubanks Sr.
JEFFERSON - Wayland Eubanks Sr., 84, died October 19, 2007. A funeral service was held October 21 at Jefferson United Methodist Church with burial in Jefferson cemetery. He was the son of the late Bun and Stella Belk Eubanks. He was retired from Walker Jordan Nissan with 50+ years. Surviving are wife Kathleen M. Eubanks; son Wayland, Jr. (Joan) Eubanks of Jefferson; brothers Paul (Gail) Eubanks of Jefferson and Bob Eubanks of Hickory, N.C.; sister Shirley (James) Crook of Jefferson; granddaughter Alison Eubanks of Columbia, S.C. Barbara L. Faulks
PAGELAND - Barbara L. Faulks,71, died October 13, 2007.
A graveside service was held October 16 at Wolf Pond Baptist Church cemetery. She was born in Pageland and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Estelle Mullis Laney.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Darlene Tucker. Surviving are sons, Ken Rape of Louisville, KY, Tony Stegall of Monroe, N.C., Brian Faulk of Pageland; daughter Patty Keeter of Monroe N.C.; sister Elizabeth Brooks of Long Beach, N.C.; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sutton Funeral Home, Pageland, was in charge of the arrangements.

William P. Kyler Sr.
CHESTERFIELD - William P. Kyler Sr., 88, died October 10, 2007 at Chestefield General Hospital, Cheraw. A funeral service was held October 15 at Word of Life Fellowship Church, Cheraw with burial in National Cemetery, Florence, S.C. Kyler, born in Beaufort, S.C., was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Pennington Kyler. At the age of seven he moved to New York City and graduated from Haaren High School. He then enlisted in the Army in 1944 during WWII,
he was honorably discharged in 1946. He then worked for the NYC Transit Authority as a dispatcher until he retired in 1980. After retirement he moved to Chesterfield and was a faithful member and Deacon of Lily of the Valley Holiness Church in Chesterfield. He served as Past 3rd Vice Commander of Johnson Lane American Legion Post 214. He was preceded in death by sister Marvelous Watson. Surviving are wife of 51 years, Leila M. Kyler; sons, William Kyler of Brooklyn, NY and Darrell (Cora) Kyler of Cheraw; daughter-in-law Dory Kyler of Chesterfield; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy Mae Covington Nicholson
LANCASTER,S.C. - Dorothy Mae Covington Nicholson, 60, died October 8, 2007. A funeral service was held October 13 at Black Creek Baptist Church, Mt. Croghan, with burial in the church cemetery. Nicholson, was born in Chesterfield County, was a daughter of the late Deacon Carl and Reverend Mary Covington. She was a graduate of Petersburg High School, 1965, and was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. She worked for Johnson Milling in Monroe, N.C. and was last employed with Wal-Mart Super Center, Lancaster, S.C. as a receiving clerk. She was preceded in death by children, Mary Denise Nicholson and Charles Nicholson; sister Barbara Jean Louallen; brother Leroy Covington; nephews Paul and Eric Price. Surviving are husband, Luther Charles Nicholson of Charlotte, N.C.; sons, Michael and Gary Nicholson of Pageland and Mitchell (Amanda) Nicholson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brothers, Willie Thomas Covington, Carl (Sylvia) Covington and James Frank (Dorothy) Covington all of Pageland; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; and a host of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Flemming Funeral Home, Pageland, was in charge of the arrangements.

Master Tyler Montgomery Roscoe
PATRICK - Master Tyler Montgomery Roscoe, 10, died October 13, 2007. A funeral service was held October 16 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in St. John Free Will Baptist Church cemetery. Master Roscoe, born in Florence, S.C., was a son of Christopher Michael Roscoe of Chesterfield and Shannon Byrd Hughes of the home.He was a “Special Child” whose life touched all who knew him. He was preceded in death by grandfather Bill Byrd; great grandparents, Charlie and Sadie Byrd, Woodrow Chisholm, Chester and Nannie Roscoe, Lonnie and Edith Shoemake. Surviving along with parents are step-father, Don Hughes of the home; step-mother, Jessica Roscoe of Chesterfield; half-brothers, Dakota Hughes of the home and Tagan Roscoe of Chesterfield; half-sister, Brianna Hughes of the home; grandparents, Janie and Mike Rivers of Patrick, Willard and Retha Roscoe of Florence, S.C.; great grandmother Margaret Fallow of Patrick; Uncle, Jodie (Sandie) Byrd of Patrick; Aunts Rhonda (Johnny) Rogers of Florence, S.C. and Jennifer Byrd of Hartsville, S.C.; a number of great uncles, aunts and cousins. Paul Edward Snipes
CHESTERFIELD — Paul Edward Snipes, 79, died September 25, 2007 at his home. A funeral service was held September 28 at White Oak Presbyterian Church with burial in the church cemetery. Snipes, born in Charlotte, N.C., was a son of the late John Henry and Blanche Watts Snipes. He was a graduate of Ruby High School and a retired shipping supervisor with J.P. Stevens with 40 years of service. He received the first Employee of the Year Award in 1989 from J.P. Stevens. Paul was a faithful member of White Oak Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and choir member. He was also a former member and deacon of Douglas Mill Baptist Church. Mr. Snipes also served on the Board of Trustees of the Douglas Mill Cemetery Association, the building committee of the Douglas Mill Fellowship Building, and was a Watchman Representative for Hospice of Chesterfield County. Paul was an avid collector and restorer of classic Chevrolets and was best known for this 1955 Chevrolet convertible, which was used in the movie Shag. He received numerous awards throughout the Southeast for his classic cars. He also enjoyed farming and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Douglas Snipes; three brothers, Harold, Billy, and Leon Snipes; sisters, Johnsie Brantley and Mary Bess. Surviving are daughters, Patsy (John) Gilbert, Becky (Gene) Marsh, Cathy (Don) Baker, Alice (Ricky) Todd all of Chesterfield; brothers, Sammy Snipes of Pageland and Claude Snipes of Longview,TX;sisters Laura Baker and Rachel Lewis both of Columbia, and Drula Hess of Las Vegas, N.V.; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Erin) Marsh, Rachel (Shawn) Cheema, Richard (Susan) Todd, Bridget Logan, Phillip Gilbert, Tamara (Paul) Barefoot, Sarah Baker, and Adrienne Baker; nine great grandchildren, Andrew, Richard, John Luke, and Adam Marsh, Dylan Oliver, Mason Logan, Natalie Todd, and Taylor and Collin Cheema.
