Mable Elizabeth Baker
PAGELAND — Mable Elizabeth Baker, 77, died Sept. 4, 2007. A funeral service was held Sept. 8 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Baker, born in Union County, N.C., was a daughter of the late Madison and Rebecca Baker. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and was employed by Caro Knit of Jefferson where she retired after 25 years. She was the first African American to be employed there, known by many as “Ma Mable.”
She was preceded in death by husband,Charles Wilson Baker; sons,Tony and Robbie Baker; five sisters and a brother.
Surviving are sons,Stoney (Katie) and Christopher Baker, of Pageland, Charles (Peggy) Baker, of Monroe, N.C., Colon (Sharon) Baker, of Lugoff, S.C., Anthony (Cynthia) Baker, of Charlotte, N.C., Tommy (Cassandra) Baker, of Lancaster, S.C. and Timothy (Demetris) Baker, of Jefferson; daughters Alberta (Nelson) Sinclair, of Hampton, Va., Lynette (Randy) Clark, of Columbia, S.C., Evelyn Sturdivant, Linda (Harry) Montgomery, Laura (James) Flemming, and Kaye (Ricky) Wright, all of Pageland and Cynthia Baker, of the home; 35 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous caring friends.
Flemming Funeral Home of Pageland was in charge of the arrangements.

Johnnie Lee Rivers Cash
CHESTERFIELD - Johnnie Lee Rivers Cash, 46, died Sept. 4, 2007. A funeral service was held Sept. 8 at Salem Baptist Church with burial in Chesterfield Community Cemetery.
Cash, born in Chesterfield County, was a daughter of Patricia Nan Joines Rivers and the late Freddie Lee Rivers. She attended the Chesterfield County public school system and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Harvey Cash Jr., and brothers,Fred and Johnny Scott Rivers.
Surviving along with mother are daughters Demetrias Richardson, Nina and Monica Cash, all of Chesterfield; son Kevin (Iris) Rivers, of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandchildren Melike Rivers, Tywane Rivers, Keyshawn Rivers, Keyonte Rivers, all of Lancaster, S.C. ,and Harvey Redfearn, of Chesterfield; sisters Patricia (Robert) Faust, of Cheraw, Linda Rivers, of Bennettsville, S.C., Lula Rivers and Vanessa Rivers, both of Chesterfield; brothers Walter Rivers of Cheraw, Darrell (Dara) Rivers, of Pageland, Robert and Jeffrey Rivers, both of Chesterfield and Michael Little, of Monroe, N.C.; grandmother Louise Hannah, of Chesterfield; and ahost of aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Loree Evans Langley
PAGELAND – Loree Evans Langley, 76, died Sept. 11, 2007. A funeral service was held Sept. 13 at Pageland Rose Memorial Nazerene Church with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
She was a daughter of the late William Harley and Mildred Robinson Evans. She was a member of the Central High Booster Club and a retired machine operator of Charlotte Plastics.
She was preceded in death by husband Bruce Langley, sister Harley Mae Demby, and granddaughter Kim Jenkins.
Surviving are sons Max (Mary) Langley, of Rock Hill, S.C., Glenn (Pat) Langley, of Pageland, and Joel (Sharon) Langley, of Pageland; daughters Bonnie E. Harpe, of Statesville, S.C., Yvonne Strawn, of Pageland, and Jean (Paul) Rhodes, of Rutherfordton, N.C. ;brothers Max Evans, Ted Evans, Coy Evans, Earnie Evans and Ben Evans, all of Pageland, and Don Evans, of Monroe, N.C.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Sutton Funeral Home of Pageland was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Lee Shaw Lewis
CHESTERFIELD - Annie Lee Shaw Lewis, 80, died Sept. 12, 2007 at her home. A funeral service was held Sept. 14 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Lewis, born in Chesterfield, was a daughter of the late Arling and Nicey Johnson Shaw. She was a retired supervisor with Chesterfield Webbing Company with 31 years of service and a lifelong member of Bay Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Eugene Lewis, brothers Woodrow and Legette Lewis, and sister Margaret Hodge.
Surviving are son Eugene “Brother” (Charlene) Lewis Jr. of Chesterfield; daughters Carolyn Roscoe, of Patrick, Barbara (Jessie) Gooden, Debbie (Jack) Hurst and Kathy (Johnny) Wilkerson, all of Chesterfield; friend, Fred White, of Chesterfield; children Irene Martin, Wanda Taylor, Kenneth and Richard White; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Sabrina Monica Smith
CHERAW – Sabrina Monica Smith, 39, died Sept. 4, 2007. A funeral service was held Sept. 9 at Robinson A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in Foundry Hill Cemetery.
Smith, born in Cheraw, was a daughter of Barbara Jean Smith and the late Robert Lee Smith. She received her education in the public schools of Cheraw and was in the class of 1986 at Cheraw High School. She worked for the food services at Highland Industries. She was a member of Robinson A.M.E. Zion Church and the Youth Adult Choir. She was preceded in death by grandparents Anderson and Rose Powe Harrington.
Surviving along with mother are twins Marcus Anthony and Mya Anitra Smith; sister Gilda Mack Benton, of Charlotte, N.C.; special friend Cynthia Marshall, of Cheraw; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

Bobby J. Thurman

CHERAW – Bobby J. “The Refrigerator Man” Thurman, 73, died Sept. 6, 2007. A funeral service was held Sept. 9 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Ruby cemetery.
Thurman, born in Chesterfield County, was a son of the late Luke Franklin and Bessie Sellers Thurman. He was a graduate of Ruby High School and was a retired employee of Delta Mills with 39 years of service. After his retirement, he repaired and sold all types of appliances. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Westside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Jerry, and Will Frank Thurman.
Surviving are wife of 48 years, Eunice T. Thurman; sons, Dennis and Michael Thurman of Cheraw; two grandchildren, Rylie and Cooper Thurman. Memorials can be sent to Westside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1417, Cheraw, S.C. 29520.
