Dr. Harold Dean Belk
CHARLOTTE, N.C.— Dr. Harold Dean Belk, 73, died Feb. 3, 2008. Funeral services were held at White Plains Baptist Church. He was born January 10, 1935 to the late William Claude and Ora Hicks Belk of Pageland. Dr. Belk graduated with honors from Duke University and the Medical University of SC. He completed his residency in Occupational Medicine from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He was former Medical Director for Western Electric, Lexington Road in Winston-Salem, N.C., Alcoa in Pittsburgh, Penn., and staff physician for Carolinas Medical Systems’ urgent care clinics in Marshville, Concord, and Monroe, N.C. Immediately preceding his death, he was employed as Medical Review Officer for National Diagnostics, Inc. in Charlotte. He was past president of the Occupational Medical Association. He is survived by his wife, Linda Charles Belk, and daughter Robin Belk Amick, both of Charlotte, sister Lila Belk Sims and husband Charles Eldred Sims, and one nephew, Barrett Charles Sims, all of Rock Hill, S.C. Geneva B. Myers Edgeworth
PAGELAND—Geneva B. Myers Edgeworth, 78, died Feb. 4, 2008. Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Oro United Methodist Church in Pageland. She was born July 15, 1929 in Pageland to the late Adam D. Myers and Alma Rushing Myers. She attended the Chesterfield county public school system. She resided in Brooklyn, N.Y. for over fifty years prior to returning to Pageland. Surviving are two daughters, Inez E. Tyson (Roy Lee) of Pageland, and Margie M. Ingram (Robert) of Jefferson; a son, George E. Edgeworth (Vanessa) of Pageland; five sisters, Alice Myers, Eva Rodgers, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bonnie Clark, Henrietta Covington, and Betty Hancock, all of Pageland; a brother, Roosevelt Myers of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a special friend, Sam Salias of Little Rock, A.R.; three sisters-in-law, Verla Lowery, Eva Myers, both of Pageland, and Ailee Myers of High Point, N.C.; a brother-in-law, M.V. Blakeney of Pageland; a son-in-law, James Huntley of Jefferson; special friends, Otelia Branch, Jeanette Washington, Idella Johnson, all of New York; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Foster Edgeworth, a daughter, Betty Carol Huntley, three sisters, and four brothers.

Roy Evans
KERSHAW—Roy Evans, 59, died Jan. 24, 2008. He was born Feb. 18, 1948, the sixth child of the late John Aaron and Gladys Robinson Evans. He received his education in the public schools of Lancaster County and graduated in 1967 from Hill Side High School in Heath Springs, S.C. His working career began at Caro-Knit in Jefferson, where he worked in the shipping department. Seeking new challenges, Roy was employed with Springs Industries and worked at Grace Bleachery for thirty years before leaving to care for his mother. A lifelong member of Cross Road Missionary Baptist Church, he was an active parishioner and faithfully attended the church until illness of his mother compeled him to curtail his activities. His service to the church includes Sunday school teacher for the youth, an usher with the Usher’s Ministry, a trustee, and a member of the Deacon’s Ministry. Mr. Evans is survived by his mother, Gladys Robinson Evans; seven sisters, Barbara A. Evans of Pittsburg, Penn., Patricia A. (David) Champion, Charlene Evans, Michelle Evans all of Bronx, N.Y., Johnny L. (George) Benson of Paradise, A.Z., Mildred (Curtis) Wright of Jefferson, S.C., and Linda (Ricky) Funderburk of Lancaster, S.C.; three brothers, Robert (Lavilla) Evans of Jefferson, Jackie (Myrna) Evans of Honolulu, H.I., and Wayne Evans of Charlotte, N.C.; a god-daughter, Chericka M. Funderburk of Lancaster; an aunt, Evelyn Mungo Robinson of Charlotte; and a host of nephews, a niece, other relatives, and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Alice McGriff Robinson; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Charlotte Haggins Evans; his father, John Aaron Evans, and his brother, Rudolph Evans.

Lala J. Funderburk
PAGELAND— Lala J. Funderburk, 91, died Feb. 3, 2008. Funeral services were held at Liberty Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday. Mrs. Funderburk was the widow of the late Bon E. Funderburk and was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church and was a WWI widow. Surviving Mrs. Funderburk are three sons, John (Rachel) Funderburk, Austin (Mary Ann) Funderburk, both of Pageland, and Kermit (Shelby) Funderburk, of Lancaster; four daughters, Joan Rowe, of Wellford, S.C., Dale (Jerry) Baxter, of Duncan, S.C., Rita Lancaster, of Luray, Va., and Brenda Bishop, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Gertrude Funderburk, of Pafftown, N.C. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Mrs. Funderburk was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen. Ruth Lang “MeMa” Jordan
CHESTERFIELD — Ruth Lang “MeMa” Jordan, 85, died Feb. 3, 2008. A funeral service was held Feb. 6 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Jordan was born in Morven, N.C., a daughter of the late John Rufus and Sarah Purvis Lang. She was a homemaker and a member of Rose Memorial Church of the Nazarene. Ruth was married to the late Bill Jordan and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jackie Hurst, Jr. Surviving are two sons, Rev. Billy R. (Betty) Jordan of Chesterfield, and Ronnie (Dianne) Jordan of Rockingham, N.C.; two daughters, Jenny (Tommy) Melton and Bonnie Hurst (Michael) Canipe, both of Chesterfield; three brothers, Billy Lang and Ed Lang of Chesterfield and Johnny Lang of Thomasville, N.C.; two sisters, Carrie Haigler of Concord, N.C. and Lela Boan of Thomasville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.

Betty Attaway Mason Moore
Betty Attaway Mason Moore, 74, died Jan. 26, 2008. A funeral service was held Feb. 1, 2008 at Zion Hill Pentecostal Church in Clinton, SC. She was born as the third of fifteen children to the late Robert and Mariah Fuller Attaway. She was educated in Laurens County public schools and at an early age married Tommie Lee Mason, bearing nine children, three of which preceded her in death as infants. She relocated to Washington, DC where she joined Temple of Truth Baptist Church. The Lord led her to Harmony Baptist Church then to Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church where she was saved. Acknowledging her calling into the ministry in 1974, she preached her initial sermon and was licensed as a minister on the second Sunday in December of 1974. After studying for a year under her pastor, she was ordained as an Evangelist. She joined United Church of God in Christ in Washington, DC where she was President of the Youth Department, the Usher Board, and the Sunday School Department. God was still working with her and led her back to South Carolina after being away for thirty-nine years. Upon her return, she married the late Leroy Moore of Pageland. At Mount Zion Progressive Church of Jesus, Elder Moore served under the leadership of Bishop Robert L. Attaway for 15 years. While there, she served as the President of the Usher Board and of the Women’s Day Committee. When her husband died in 1992, she relocated to Laurens, S.C. She then left Mouth Zion to help Pastor Charles Smith at Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church. Having a vision from God, Pastor Smith appointed her as Assistant Pastor after she served under him awhile, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She taught Sunday school for the children and was an original member of the Faith Tabernacle Gospel Choir. She was preceded in death by sister, Gena Mae Jones, brother, John Arthur Attaway, husband, Leroy Moore and three grandchildren. Surviving are three sons, Thommie Charles Mason of Anderson, S.C., Robert Gene Mason of Suitland, M.D., and Michael Gerald Mason of Washington, DC; three daughters, Alice (Robert) Williams of Upper Marlboro, M.D., Cynthia (Gregory) Wormley of Upper Marlboro, M.D., and Michelle (Larry) Holmes of Laruens, S.C.; inherited by marriage: two sons, Jimmy Moore of Washington, D.C. and Mitchell Moore of Jessup, M.D.; three daughters, Edith Phillips and Saundra Ware of Washington, DC, and Betty (Leonard) Blakely of Fayetteville, N.C. Thirteen grandchildren, with two raised in the home-Tammy Tarrell Mason and Tommie Angerlo Mason; twenty-two great-grandchildren with one raised in the home-LaShay Sowell, one great great grandson, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren inherited by marriage. Two brothers, Bishop Robert L. (Juanita) Attaway of Simpsonville, S.C., Leroy (Lucille) Attaway of Syracus, N.Y.; five sisters, Lille Ruth Jones of Syracuse, N.Y., Luella (Michael) Copeland of Clinton, S.C., Florence Putman of Laurens, S.C., Magalean Fowler of Woodruff, S.C., and Gloria (Ernest) Lyles of Whitmire, S.C Laurens, S.C.; three godchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jack Lee Rollins
PAGELAND— Jack Lee Rollins, 54, died Feb. 5, 2008. A funeral was held Feb. 8 at Sutton Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Dudley Baptist Church Cemetery. Surviving are sons, Jody Rollins of Pageland and Billy Miller of Monroe, N.C.; daughters, Misty Miracco of Monroe, Sarah Catoe of Kershaw, S.C., and Lisa Crowell of Edgemoore, S.C.; three sisters, Dianne Rollins of Pageland, Georgia Hancock of Pageland, and Dorothy Wallace of Moores Hill, I.N.; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Hellen Leaird Sellers
RUBY— Hellen Leaird Sellers, 82, died Feb. 5, 2008. A funeral service was held Feb. 8 at Hopewell Baptist Church. Mrs. Sellers was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., a daughter of the late Grover Jerome and Ida Jane Tucker Leaird. She was a retired cosmetologist and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Helen was married to the late Otis P. Sellers and was also preceded in death by her brother Woodrow Leaird, and her three sisters, Ethel White, Mattie Lee Shook, and Juanita White.
Surviving are sons, Ronnie (Gai) Sellers of Cheraw, Charles F. Sellers of Ruby, Danny Sellers of Chesterfield, and Marty L. (Debbie) Sellers of Ruby; a daughter, Nancy Johns Hubbard of Ruby; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
